The SR 7 Multimodal Improvements Corridor Study

SR7 Overview

Project Purpose

To enhance the transit passenger, bicycle, and pedestrian experience, identify congestion and safety improvements, develop short-term improvements that can be carried out immediately, identify longer-term improvements for project development, and meet the terms of environmental regulations.

Objectives

  • Reduce Traffic Congestion
  • Reduce Crashes and Crash Severity
  • Increase Non-Single Occupancy Vehicle (Non-SOV) Mode Share
  • Improve Access to Transit
  • Improve Transit Performance
  • Promote Infill and Redevelopment

Study Area

A mile-wide corridor centered on SR 7 that runs from just south of the Miami-Dade County Line to north of Sample Road.  The corridor impacts 15 cities, unincorporated Broward County, and the Seminole Tribe of Florida. The corridor has the highest transit ridership of any corridor in Broward County with over 20,000 transit riders per day. The need for the project was identified in the MPO’s 2040 Metropolitan Transportation Plan.

The Final Summary Report and prioritized list of projects was approved by the Broward MPO Board on July 14, 2016. The next steps in the implementation of the proposed projects includes coordination between the Florida Department of Transportation, Broward MPO, Broward County Transit, and other transportation planning partners.
